Opera in the North Woods? You bet! A number of people have a misconception about opera. (It's not dull, incomprehensible, nor is it for the 'artistic elite' only.) The goal of the Northern Light Opera Company is to bring a good story to life, making it understandable and fun; when light opera adds music to the story, it does so to add humor, emotional intensity, and beauty. The additional dimension of actors on a stage, sets, lighting, costumes, brings the whole thing to life.

The set construction crew (from the North Woods) takes great pride in their part of creating the illusion. The stage and technical directors (from New York City) bring their Juilliard and Ohio State training together to achieve theater magic. The audience (from the North Woods and beyond) has come to find that the Northern Light Opera Company has a well-deserved reputation for great musical theater.
The Northern Light Opera Company, located in Park Rapids, Minnesota, was established in 2001. It has performed a number of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, light operas and musicals. Residents and visitors to the Northern Minnesota Lakes Area communities of Park Rapids, Walker, Nevis, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Menahga, Sebeka, and Wadena make up the primary audience and participant pool.
