ABOUT
Opera in the Northwoods? You bet.
Every summer, the small town of Park Rapids MN swells with visitors who spend their glorious summer hours on the many beautiful lakes of the area. And every summer, since 2002, the great NLOC community gets out their hammers, their needles, their glue guns & their librettos and start the great work of making theatrical magic!
The Northern Light Opera Company has a well-deserved reputation for professional-quality musical theater productions, with live orchestras, excellent scenic & costume design, and fluid staging. Tackling light operas by Gilbert & Sullivan as well as 20th century masterworks by the likes of Rodgers & Hammerstein & Stephen Sondheim, NLOC always attempts to transport its audiences to new worlds of musical delight. And we have a lot of fun doing it!
Boasting a company with members ranging from age 6 - 86, Northern Light Opera Company is a northwoods treasure. Come to a show, and see what makes us special. Or pick up a paintbrush, and come join us in the making of the magic!

There are also many expenses involved in every production: royalties, auditorium rental, publicity materials, supplies for set & costume construction, costumes rental, honorariums for musicians and guest directors, and more.
